NEW DELHI, INDIA — South Korean company LG Electronics has launched in India, a television equipped with mosquito-repelling technology.

According to Reuters, the latest product is targeted at lower-income consumers whose living conditions would make them vulnerable to mosquitoes.

The technology consists of an ultrasonic device, which emits sound waves above 30 kHz. The sound waves are inaudible to human but can be used to drive mosquitoes away.

The device would continue to function when the TV switched off as long as the TV remains plugged to a power source.

In addition to the mosquito-repelling TV, LG has also applied the technology in its air conditioners and washing machines sold in India.
